Tips from a Fat Guy

Hey everyone, I just want to introduce you to something I'm trying out, It's called tips from a fat guy. Loosing weight to be thin is great and all but there are some advantages to being fat sometimes and over the course of my blog I'll show you some tips that I've picked up while being fat. These "things" could be anything really, the point is just to share things I've come across over my life as a fat guy that you skinny people may not have been introduced to.

So to start things out I figured I'd keep it to something small but valuable for the rest of your life.

Tip from a fat guy #1: Always drink your milk from a ceramic coffee mug.

It's the greatest thing in the world, It takes milk drinking to the next delicious level. Think about it, when it comes to wine, beer or liquor, there is thousands of different types of glasses to drink them out of simply to enhance the experience and flavors.

                                                                    It's Science!

The same thing applies with milk, by drinking it out of a ceramic mug it helps chill the milk and gives you the ultimate milk drinking experience.

Take it from the fat guy..... I know

Thanks for reading, I'll have an other update soon that will deal more towards my dieting and where I'm at progress wise.

P.S. Thanks to Zack Langlois who originally showed me this tip!

Keep your friends close... and your enemies closer...

Everyone has a weakness...especially when it comes to food. Some people can't resist cookies, chocolate, McDonalds, Ice Cream, Etc... We all have that one item we just can't say no too. Mine is chips... Specifically Doritos, ever since I've been a little boy its been my go to snack. From as young as 12 (I think? I was young) I would finish off an entire big bag of Doritos to myself and not even break a sweat. Over the years as I've gotten older this habit has developed from One night a week, to a few times a week, to everyday of the week. I've even eaten two bags in one sitting. It got out of control to say the least. It's my one weakness and it's derailed me from many diet attempts in the past.

Seen Here: reenactment of me in my hay day with my delicious lover....

Not this time...I'm quitting them....FOREVER! Alcoholics have...well Alcohol, I have Doritos...I'm a Doritoholic. Just like anyone trying to get over an addiction I have to quit and never look back. As ridiculous as it sounds it will be one of the most difficult things of my life.

How am I going to do that you ask? Well as the brilliant Chinese military strategist, Sun-Tzu, Once said "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer". So I've invited the enemy into my home.

This is my bag of Doritos and his name is Tito
Don't feel sorry for Tito, I heard he beats his ex wife and doesn't pay alimony

I am keeping a bag around the house as a constant reminder of the damage it has done to my body for all these years. I've had a lot of people telling me this is a bad idea, my logic behind it is if I always have it around and I can get over my affliction with it around, I will have won the battle both physically and mentally. It's risky, I agree but only by facing my demons head on will I truly be able to overcome this addiction.

"Do not fear risk. All exploration, all growth is calculated. Without challenge people cannot reach their higher selves. Only if we are willing to walk over the edge can we become winners."  - Unknown

Plus it just feels awesome to give Tito the finger and go eat some celery sticks in front of him.

Thanks for reading today! Keep coming back and reading, it really does make a difference and help me keep going!

Post below and let me know what your one food weakness is!

Weigh in and Stats

Hey everyone,

As of Friday morning I officially began my food plan of the diet. The past few days have been miserable for sure but I am getting through it. I know that as time passes by it will become easier. To commemorate the beginning of my food plan I weighed in and got an official starting weight. Here's a picture of that weigh in:

As you can see all my stats are terrible right now. The little arrows should be closer to the middle where that light blue bar is. Apparently I am carrying the weight of a small woman's worth of fat on my body, that's practically a an entire persons worth of weight in fat! Here's a look of how I've been doing so far from the beginning:

Take a look at the dates at the bottom. That was over Christmas holidays and New Years, even though I have not lost much weight yet I am pretty proud of myself that I even lost anything over the holidays. I still enjoyed myself but I made sure to limit the amount of cookies and sweets, after meals I would try and go out for a walk, and I even went to the gym with my friend Jake once and It paid off. How many of you can say you lost weight over Christmas!?

As for staying active, currently I am trying to walk as often as possible. I would be doing more but due to my high blood pressure the doctor has ordered I take it easy at first until it is decreased enough. Thanks to my Nike + here's a run down of what I have completed so far. I'll break down in numbered sections to give everyone an idea of what your looking at.

1. This is a bar graph for the total distance of all the walk /runs I've done so far. The most recent one on the 14th my iPod turned off because it was too cold out! That's why it's smaller than the others.

2.These are the totals for the month of all my work outs accumulated.

3. I have the option to view all my data by day, week, month, or even all time.

4. This is one of my most favorite parts of the Nike + site. This is a progression bar that counts my total miles walked/ran. It is divided in levels, just like a video game, as you will remember from my last post that is what I am trying to achieve. The more that I'm active the higher level I will become. I really think that's going to be a great motivator for me.

That's about all for today, thanks again for coming back and reading my blog. Next time I post I will introduce you to my Arch Nemesis/Rival and let you know how I'm planning to deal with it.

We can rebuild him.... We have the technology!

Like many "man children" of my generation I enjoy playing video games from time to time. Many of the games I have played (Fallout 3, Skyrim, Mass Effect, Etc...) have a level progression system which you build upon through the entire game until essentially your character becomes strong enough to defeat what ever comes his/her way. There are detailed statistics in all of these games for you to obsess over and track.

When I finally made my decision to commit and start losing weight I started trying to think of ways I would enjoy doing it. Essentially I came to the conclusion that I'm gonna turn my weight loss into a video game!

The game is to turn myself from This Guy                             Into This guy

Thanks to playing these video games my entire life I am obsessive when it comes to tracking stats. So that's just what I'm going to do with myself. Personal trainers generally do a great job doing all that stuff for you but they also come with a price tag about the same as a used car. Thankfully we live in the 21st century and practically anyone can be replaced with technology! Enter the Withing WiFi Scale and Nike + Sports Kit, for $200 and $30 respectively, I have replaced an entire person with technology.

My scale is my favorite thing on the planet right now. This amazing piece of technology weighs you in Lbs, Kg and even in stones. Through biometric impedance analysis, the scale will also measure my fat mass, muscle mass, and BMI. But what makes this scale so special is WiFi! The scale is always connected to the internet and sends all your data automatically to an online account which shows and tracks all your progress. I can even get the data on my smart phone thanks to a free app they created. This scale is also so smart that it can auto-recognize up to 8 individual people just by standing on it.

This video will give you a basic idea of the awesomeness I have purchased

The second piece of technology is the Nike + sports kit, it essentially turns your iPod or iPhone into a personal trainer. Nike + will track how far you've run, your pace, how many calories you've burnt, all while sending this data to your online account. There's also an option where you can add a power song, which you select and can call upon at anytime to give you that extra boost.  Nike + will also let you challenge friends online and let you track all your progress against them. Watch this video for all the details about Nike +.

As you can see after watching both videos, with this technology I'm essentially turning my weight loss into a video game. I'm super pumped to start using both of these together and begin tracking my progression  to awesomeness!

Next blog entry I'll add pictures of all the data I have collected so far.

Thanks for reading today and please comment below on what you think of my new toys!

P.S. As I mentioned above the Nike + kit is between $20-$30 (pretty cheap considering), if anyone feels inspired to go out an buy one after seeing this I'd love to compete with anyone in walking/running challenges!

They say the camera adds 10 lbs.... well apparently I ate the camera...

Well here's the moment I've been dreading, the before picture. Generally I'm pretty good at hiding how big I am with what I wear, It's something that most fat people tend to learn pretty quick. Not wearing stripes, wearing dark colors, layering clothes to hide rolls.... Hiding fat is a multi-million dollar industry, just watch the shopping channel sometime or any late night infomercials, every other commercial is practically trying to sell you something to hide your fat. So that's why when I tell people I weigh 300lbs (Yeah you read that right) they don't usually believe me....or everyone was just way too nice to tell me I've become Jabba the Hut!

This is how I feel right now...But with nicer Clothes

I visited my doctor last week and went for my first physical ....EVER! I know, I'm a terrible person, the important thing is that it really opened my eyes. You know the expression "my body is a temple" well apparently my body is a Temple of Doom! My doctor kindly informed me that my blood pressure is 140/100, apparently that's bad.......real bad. I've also got a liver that looks like Charlie Sheen went on a drinking binge and apparently I've also got Gout. Which if left untreated can lead to something similar to kidney stones.

An eye awakening indeed...So without rambling on to much more I'm posting my before picture. This was not something that was easy to do but I figured I'm in this all the way or else what's the point of this entire blog. Please be Kind!
Bring me Solo and the Wookiee! WHA! WHA! WHA!

So that's me, all 300lbs of me. For some who haven't seen me in a while this picture might surprise a few of you. It even surprised me and I have to look at my self everyday. What I'm going to do is take a picture every week of myself and at the end when I've completed my goal I'll put them all together into a collage video so that everyone can see the progress all at once!

That's about all I got for today. I'd like to thank everyone who has been visiting my blog, the response and traffic here has surpassed what I could have ever expected. Thank you everyone for your support! Please keep comming back and don't forget to leave a comment Below!
